Wednesday, April 2, 2024 • 6:30 - 10:00 PM Dan Thompson will lead a figure drawing demonstration in graphite for three hours. From a live sitting, he will show certain vital lines of thrust and attitude, explore the figure’s proportional harmony and demonstrate anatomical landmarking within. These elements will all comprise and support the body's expression. Enter at 516 West 26th street. The demo will be on the fourth floor in studio 415. This is a live demo for the benefit of the people attending. No filming allowed. Dan Thompson has been exhibited in public and private collections throughout the world, including the Corcoran Gallery of Art, The John Noble Museum, The Pasadena Museum of California Art, the National Arts Club, the United States Capitol and Beijing’s World Art Museum. His awards include the Erlebacher Award, the ASOPA Grand Prize, two Ethel Lorraine Bernstein Memorial Awards for Excellence in Painting, and two Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation Grants. Thompson is the Faculty Chair of the Certificate of Fine Arts department of the New York Academy of Art and has been on the MFA faculty of the New York Academy for 24 years. He is also a member of the faculty of the Art Students League of New York as well as Lyme Academy of the Fine Arts. He has taught numerous intensive drawing workshops within Weill Cornell Medicine as well as Jefferson and Stanford University’s dissection laboratories.
